ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

AGE

Candidates must be at least 16 plus at the beginning of the course.

ACADEMIC - there are three levels of entry available:

To be considered for a cadetship you will need to have, or expect to gain, at least 5 GCSE's (grades A*- C) or Scottish Standard Grades (grades 1 - 3) and these MUST include Mathematics, English and Physics or Dual Award Science.

If you have studied Mathematics and Physics to A'level and gained a pass in one of them, or have studied Mathematics and Physics to Highers standard and gained a pass in both, you may be eligible for entry to a slightly shorter course.

If you have studied A'levels or Highers including Mathematics and Physics and have, or expect to have passed with a total of 120 UCAS points, you may be eligible for entry onto a specialised degree cadetship - please contact us for more details of this course.

MEDICAL

All Merchant Navy personnel aboard ship including cadets must be in possession of a valid seafarers medical certificate, known as an ENG1, issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). This is usually arranged after you have been interviewed and provisionally accepted for a cadetship. However, if you have an underlying medical condition that you believe may cause a problem, please contact us and we will advise you on the best course of action.
